My Favourite Kids Décor Trends For 2024

It's a New Year and that means New Interior Design Trends, and kids rooms are no exception! In fact Kids rooms are 100% the most fun to decorate and it feels like there has been huge changes in how considered we are when we are designing our little ones rooms.

It's not all about trends though, the most important thing is creating a room you and your little one love and feel safe in, and that it works for you, your home, your budget and your family.

I still love to know what trends we will likely be seeing though, and a little bit of inspiration never hurt anyone. So here are my favourite trend predictions for kids rooms in 2024 and my take on them

 

Neutral, Natural and Textured

Neutrals are here to stay, think lots of texture with boucle accessories, keep it small with cushions or go big with a boucle chair. Wicker baskets, Jute rugs, Wooden Furnishings, even textured walls are predicted to be popular this year. If you don't feel like braving getting creative with some plaster, you could create a similar look with wall paper or with paint using the paint technique used here by Harriet from @life.with.madison.evie. Expect to see Rattan too, and don't forget some pops of Wooden Décor for that finishing touch.

Grandmillenial

Or Granny Chic. A vintage inspired style, combining heirloom pieces, with some more modern elements.  My interpretation would be dark wooden furniture, baroque style picture frames, wall lights with pleated sconce shades,  patchwork quilts, and going dramatic with colour with a mix of beautifully muted blue colours with pops of vibrant red. However it can be equally neutral, let the accessories do the work, classic liberty print wallpapers would work really well with this style too.

 

Brown

Very much in the neutral camp but a prediction on its own is the comeback of brown. Mixed with lighter tones expect to see shades of Coffee and Chocolate (my favourite combination😋) in wallpaper prints and paint colours. I'm imagining rattan accessories and creamy boucle again but paired with rich chocolate shades. If painting your wall Brown feels too bold though you could always add some pops of Brown art work, wall hangings with Coffee and Chocolate shades of wool, or with cushions and bedding. 

 

 

Maximalised Walls

We are maximalising walls in 2024, wall murals, gallery walls, bold wallpapers, have fun and fill those walls!!! For gallery walls be thinking playful prints, bold colours, Personalised wall signs, and fun wall lights. The benefits of a gallery wall are that they can be changed up easily. Wall murals are great at creating a big impact, there are some amazing kids wall murals over at Photowall.

 

A couple of trends not mentioned but I personally think are here to stay for 2024 are wall panelling. I think we will continue to see people getting creative with their panelling style. The second one is painted ceilings, this is one trend that I would love to try, I've never seen it not look amazing. Jesse's room is a perfect example, Sarah @no_9designs has continued the green painted border to cover the ceiling and the result is stunning.
